Art Grinding

These are just studies.  The top page is full of Erik Gist studies (and one Ron Lemen); the arrows, text, and linear drawings are my own addition based on things I have pieced together throughout the years of learning the craft of figure drawing/art.  The second page are studies after a phenomenal artist by the name of Riccardo Mannelli.  The third page is either labeled with the artist I studied from, or not (because it is my own creation).  The fourth one is me playing.  And the last one is from various photos.  Enjoy!

Humming Bird

Here is a belated Christmas gift I made for my grandma.  Things became too busy with projects for me to finish something in time, so I settled on this.  Hopefully she likes it.  I just grabbed a random photo I found from the internet.  I cannot remember where I found it, but if I can find the source, I will be sure to credit the link (if you find it, please tell me).

Artistically speaking, I have been feeling a bit stifled as of late.  I wish I could recapture that feeling of excitement and adventure I used to have while drawing.  I think I am concentrating too much on creating something finished that I am not taking enough risks to explore other paths.  I guess I have just been feeling that I need to create some solid, portfolio pieces to showcase.  However, I still feel that sketching is the funnest thing for me, and I learn the most doing it, and that's what it's all about...personal growth.  Now if I could only figure out how to turn that into a career...

Otis

Here is another picture of Otis.  I drew this in graphite and col-erase on printer paper.  I am not too happy with some of the fur texture...but the drawing is decent.  Here is a link to the previous finished drawing I did of Otis.

This is going to be a gift for my brother for Christmas this year...he has no choice but to like it because he is my brother.

Halloween Movie Monsters

I Managed to do this page of sketches based on the Universal Studios monsters from the silver screen era.  Been pretty busy with freelance and school, so nothing too special, but I hope you enjoy, and have a happy Halloween!

More Struggle

Here are a couple of charcoal drawings.  I still feel like I struggle quite a bit with realism...the time and execution doesn't feel as natural or effortless as I have observed them to be in the great artists and illustrators I have learned from.  It is very frustrating to still not have that kind of control, and I would really like to reach that point.  Until then, I will continue working towards that goal...and asking people who are there for advice.

These are just random photos that I have found while being on the Internet.  I see photos that I think I might like to translate into a drawing and file them away...the file is quite large now...I think I have serious problems.

Also, while typing this, I didn't realize that the word "Internet" is meant to be capitalized.  I never thought of it as a proper noun...does anyone else feel that way?  I guess it is pretty important and one of a kind.

Enjoy!

Kid Me

So this is a quick drawing of myself when I was young. I did this in 2009, and I can definitely see some errors in proportions. However, I am most dissatisfied with the way my left eye turned out. I should say too, when using conte, you end up running into bits of rocks and grog in the clay, and they leave deep grooved lines that cannot erase. You can see these going diagonally across my forehead and other parts of the drawing.

Cut the Cake

I apologize in advance if I have posted any of these drawings. This is a study done in 2009 of my parents from their wedding album. The fashion and style is so dated and interesting to me, as well as the fact that my parents look so young. This is done in charcoal and white pastel on 18X24 newsprint.
